With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, niece and friend Marcia Gae Ryzner (Minshull). Marcie fought a long and courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease before passing away peacefully on November 22nd with her family by her side.
Surviving Marcie are her three children Damon (Chandel), Jayce (Jade) & their daughter Eberle, and her youngest son Nate Ryzner. Her mom Linda, her three sisters Tania (Tim), Emily and Sara (Adam) and her cousin Myles. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews and more aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends then a top-notch mathematician could count. Marcie was predeceased by her dad, Boyd Minshull, and her grandparents Bill, Bernice, Mac, and Lillian. Her Uncles Jim, Dale and Maurice, and her Aunts Jean & Betty-Anne and cousins Marlene, Shawna, and Matt.
Marcie was born May 1, 1972, to Boyd and Linda Minshull of Pierson, Manitoba. She was the first granddaughter to Bill and Bernice Minshull and was the instantaneous star of the Minshull homestead until the untimely arrival of her younger sister Tania and cousin Kent. From an early age Marcie talked, laughed, and engaged with everyone she met. Her Mom Linda says that Marcie talked before she walked and was happy to introduce every new ‘friend’ she met in town to her mom when she had the chance. She was lovingly raised on the family farm and was the first to tell everyone that she had an amazing childhood.
Marcie loved learning and she loved people. She was involved in figure skating, piano lessons, cadets, baseball, Pierson United church Sunday School and served on the Student Council and Mental Health Advisory board. She had the biggest hair and the loudest laugh the halls of Pierson School have ever seen (although her lifelong best friend, Cindy Horrigan, came in a close second). She attended Brandon University straight after high school, obtaining a Bachelor-Degree majoring in business and computer science in 1994. Marcie had a truly adventurous spirit, working in Banff and the Yukon during her summer breaks and travelling around Canada and the world whenever the opportunity presented. She worked in the financial sector, before ultimately starting her own business as an independent financial advisor.
The true loves of her life were her three sons Damon, Jayce, and Nate. Marcie, Elliot, and their family lived in Brandon, before relocating to a beautiful acreage outside of Carberry. Marcia was a true mother of sons, laughing at the treehouse and snowboard shenanigans, and ignoring the smell of the hockey equipment in the back of her red car. She loved baking for her family and was known to whip up some banana chip muffins or monster cookies at any hour of the day. Unfortunately, with the onset of HD she was forced to retire from work and as her health deteriorated, she moved back to the farm in Pierson with her parents and then to Okotoks, Alberta with them. Despite the challenges she faced in her life – Marcie maintained her inspiring positive attitude and joy in being with her family and friends. Her love of romance novels, shopping, menthol cigarettes, the Hallmark Channel & her boys stayed with her.
Marcie was beloved by her extended family and her mom was her unwavering champion and support for all the days of her life. Marcie treasured every minute she had with her sons as the years passed, and her room was filled with pictures of them and keepsakes from every stage of their lives. Her granddaughter Eberle brought her immense joy, and she showed every nurse and visitor her album of beautiful ‘Ebe’ photos. Marcie was always extremely proud of her boys and loved her daughter in laws. She saw all of them together over the Thanksgiving weekend to her immense surprise and happiness. Although we will miss her terribly, we feel blessed to have had Marcie for as long as we did, and happy to know she is now laughing hysterically and arriving unapologetically late to her reunions in heaven.
