MABEL LOUISE WATSON
January 31, 1931 – February 27, 2022
Forever lovingly remembered and cherished as a beautiful, remarkable & wonderful Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Companion and friend, the family of Mabel Watson sadly announce her passing.
Mabel was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Art Watson, and her daughter, Judith Watson, as well as her parents and seven siblings.
Mabel is survived by her children: daughter Gay (Herman), son Lynn (Audrey), daughter Janet (Ben), son Keith (Sheri), son Jeff, and her loving & caring life companion for the last 12 years, Dennis Forseille. Mabel also leaves behind 3 brothers.
Grandma Mabel will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren: Adrian (Lindsey), Carmen (Dan), Kyle, Cory (Jolene), Kerri, Matthew, Elizabeth, Megan, Sam, Kate, Mary & Sophia; as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Peyton, Avery, Kirsten, Peyton, Emma, KaCey & Harley.
Mabel also held a special spot in the hearts of Dennis’ family and will be missed by son Jason (Pat) their children Jordan (Mercedes) & Alyssa; daughter Charleen and her children Cora, Shaelyne (Beau), Myah (Ryan) & Kael; brothers Vern & Louis, and sisters Blanche, Rosalie and Theresa.
Mabel Louise Mierau was born in Langham, Saskatchewan in 1931 into what would eventually become a family of 11 children, 5 girls and 6 boys. Mabel was the third oldest. She loved the outdoors and helping her dad on the farm. In school, she excelled at track and field. After the family moved to the Abbotsford BC area (1945), she eventually met a handsome young man named Art, while she was working at the Pine Grove corner store on Mt. Lehman Rd. They soon married, with their first home being built on Art’s brother, Sid’s farm on Mt. Lehman Road. From there, with daughter, Gay, they would live in many locations, while adding 5 more children along the way. These places included: Jervis Inlet, Pouce Coupe, Dawson Creek, Charlie Lake, Ft. St.John, Grandhaven, and Courtenay in B.C. as well as Calmar, Edmonton, acreages near Devon and Edson in Alberta.
Perhaps this inspired Mabel’s love of travel as she could list among the places she had been: Iran, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, Mexico, U.S., & the Dominican.
There was nothing idle about Mabel’s life. To begin with, she got plenty of exercise raising 6 children but after most had left the nest, she took up aerobics in her 50’s, eventually becoming an instructor and leading up to 5 classes a day! She also participated in snowmobiling, hiking, biking, water aerobics, power walking, cross-country skiing, camping, fishing and boating. Mabel also loved acting, singing and even tried her hand at playing the guitar. While living in Calmar, Mabel even opened a dry goods store with her friend, Leona.
Mabel was a talented seamstress, knitter and crocheter, creating many beautiful items for her children, grandchildren as well as herself when time permitted. She was also a wonderful cook and meticulous housekeeper. Although Mabel always wished she could have been a teacher, we probably all agree that she truly was an amazing teacher throughout her life, imparting love, modelling and knowledge from which we have all benefited.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital for their much appreciated care and attention in making Mabel as comfortable as possible, and welcoming her many family and friends during her last days.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date in order to honor the life of the extraordinary Mabel Louise Watson.
