Lyla May (Reid) Curwin – 92, Bible Hill. A
heartbroken family mourns the loss of Lyla May (Reid) Curwin, who died
on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Colchester-East Hants Health
Centre, Truro.
Lyla was a kind and gentle woman who was a warm presence and
bright light for her family. She was quiet in public, but those who
knew her well appreciated her kindness, wit and sense of humour. Born
in Brule Shore, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie
(Baird) Reid. Lyla moved to Moncton, where she worked in the catalogue
order offices of Eaton’s, before marrying and raising her
children. When her parents were faced with health issues, she –
bringing her husband and two children – returned to Nova Scotia to
care for them. After returning to the province, she gave birth to her
third child. She enjoyed reading, knitting, painting and spending time
with her favourite animals – cats.
Lyla is survived by her daughters, Lynn Curwin, Bible Hill;
Cindy (Richard) Bishop, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Phelan Porteous,
Bible Hill; Kyna Porteous, Bible Hill; Shane Bishop, Halifax; Selina
Carver, Amherst; Robin Sanford, Bridgewater; six great-grandchildren;
sisters, Etta Jamieson, Lavenia Hunter, Ruth Elliott, Verna Pinard;
her feline companion, Zoe.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Clark Gable Curwin; son, Clark Scott Curwin; brothers, Fulton Reid,
Dickson Reid, Clayton Reid, Kenneth Reid.
Honouring Lyla’s wishes, there will not be a
service. If so desired, donations in Lyla’s memory to North
Mountain Animal Sanctuary, Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre or
CARMA Cat Rescue Maritimes – Colchester Chapter are
welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of
condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Lyla’s
