In Celebration of
Luigi Frangella
July 23, 1948 –
November 26, 2022
In sadness, the family of Lou Frangella announces his passing after a lengthy stay in the hospital. His body may have failed him, but his sense of humour and trademark smile never wavered.
Cherished husband to Anna Maria (Mandozzi) for the last 44 years. Now reunited with his mother and father (Raffaella and Francesco) and his mother-in-law and father-in-law (Adina and Giuseppi).
Beloved brother of Gerry (Lidia), Lina Iannitelli (Sam), Rosetta Falco (Nick), Isabel Brotolotto, and brother-in-law Joe Mandozzi (Filomena).
Treasured uncle to Raffaella (Marcello), Nadia (Chris), Frank, Rita (Nathan), Lora (Giovanni), Gianni (Melanie), Tony (Vanessa), Marianna (Vince), Luc, Kayla, Melissa (John), Kristen, and Joseph.
He will be sadly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews. Lou also shared a special bond with his long-time friend Dominic D’Ippolitto, whose jokes and laughter together will be missed.
Lou was born in Pietrafitta, Cosenza, Italy, moving to France in 1960 spending time working as a lumberjack. In 1968 Lou completed the final leg of his global journey, immigrating to Canada. He found work as a chrome plater for many years, but his pursuit of knowledge led him to becoming an electrician, the jumping off point to running a successful local business for 25 years. As we often joked, Lou had his hands in many of our homes – literally and figuratively, a bringer of light.
Nothing was more important to Lou than family. He loved getting together on every occasion. It is perhaps here, more than anywhere that his sense of humour and ability to make a five-minute story last an evening became endeared to those around him. Never the largest in stature, but his contagious laughter could fill a room, becoming a hallmark of all family gatherings.
Outside of family, Lou enjoyed traveling with Anna and friends. Ever the tinkerer, he found joy in fixing broken things; making old treasures new again. When not on the go, solace was found in his backyard garden and fishpond. And when the day was done, Lou rested while enjoying an espresso, watching Italian soccer and movies.
There will never be enough words to express the sorrow this loss brings. Our beloved Lou will be missed immeasurably, forever loved, and never forgotten.
