Obituary For Lillian Selke
On Friday, November 25, 2022, Lillian Selke (Judd) of Crooked Creek, AB, passed away peacefully at the Valleyview Hospital in Valleyview, AB at the age of 96 years, with many family members by her side.
Lillian was born in Little Red River, AB on April 12, 1926, to Mary and Yvon “Epo” Auger.
She attended St. Theresa’s Residential School in Fort Vermillion, AB. Lillian and Conrad Judd were married near Fort Vermillion, AB on January 5, 1943. They were blessed with eleven children: Ralston (Audrey) Judd, Victor (Cheryl) Judd, Caroline Ratzlaff, Verna (Cormac) Gallivan, Mildred (Ralph) Selke, Ivy (Peter) Walega, Anita (Ron) Schell, Lila Judd, Sheila Judd, Jason (Shelley) Judd, and Robert Judd. The family finally settled in Crooked Creek, AB where Conrad sadly passed away in 1979. Lillian then remarried Otto Selke on October 19, 1990.
Lillian lived a long and fulfilled life surrounded by her family. In recent years, she spent her spare time knitting various gifts for loved ones and for charity. She was a skilled embroiderer, bead and leather craftsperson, and gardener. Her garden was always well-kept and bountiful and there was always a partially completed puzzle around for her many visitors to help her with. She was also proud to share her knowledge of baking, cooking, and preparing preserves with anyone who was willing to learn. Lillian was the eldest elder of the Little Red River Cree Nation at the time of her passing. She was respected and adored by many. She was a kind-hearted, generous woman who accepted everyone just as they were. Her home was filled with love and laughter. She truly left behind a legacy, including a total of seventy-one descendants.
She was survived by sisters: Elsie, Doreen, Grethel, and Anne; her eleven children as listed above; twenty grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and ten great great-grandchildren.
Lillian was predeceased by parents Mary and Yvon “Epo” Auger; siblings: Theresa, Madeline, George, Billy, Alice, Hilda, John, and Max; first husband Conrad Judd; grandson Brad Ratzlaff; granddaughter Barbara Gallivan; great-grandson Lane Judd; daughter-in-law Audrey Judd; son-in-laws: Ralph Selke, and Ron Schell.
A Viewing will take place prior to the service on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 1:00 pm, at the DeBolt Community Hall (65 Alberta Avenue DeBolt, AB).
A Funeral Service will be held, Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at the DeBolt Community Hall. A livestream link will be available for those who cannot attend.
