It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our precious mother, Lillian “Lily” McMullin on August 31, 2022 at The Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side.
During her younger years, Mom worked in the general office for Sydney Steel. It was there that she met the love of her life, our father, Joe. If you were to ask Mom the thing she was most proud of in life, it was building a family with our father. Mom’s most treasured gifts were their five children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She dedicated her life to loving all of us and for that, we will forever be grateful and are left with countless memories that we will always cherish.
Aside from raising her family, Mom had a passion for fitness. She attended several yoga classes each week followed by tea with the girls to talk about life events and have a good laugh. Mom met some wonderful ladies at yoga and formed a lifelong relationship with many outside of class. Mom also enjoyed going on daily walks with her late husband, Joe. It was part of their routine; a drive, a walk, and a little treat was never missed. Friends and family were a constant in Mom’s life. She loved her time spent surrounded by flowers on her deck, our annual family trips to Florida and Maine and talking to her friends on the phone. Mom was never seen without family or friends by her side. Going for groceries would often turn into a lengthy social event; a reminder to us of her friendliness and beautiful soul.
Lillian…our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend ….thank you. Thank you for your love, thank you for your constant support, your listening ear and shoulder to lean on, your comfort, humour, and charm. Most importantly, thank you for being ours! You were truly a lady like no other and will forever be missed. We love you most!
Lillian is survived by her daughters, JoAnn (Wendell) Mahoney and Judy McMullin (Bernard Deveau); sons, Gerard McMullin, Bobby McMullin and Barry (Cathy) McMullin; grandchildren, Katy Mahoney (Keith Sullivan), Logan MacIntyre (Katie O’Hanley), Joseph McMullin and Rachel MacIntyre; great-grandchildren, Braeden and Meredith MacNeil; sisters, Theresa Taylor and JoAnn (Gary) Ross; and brother, Bernie (Ursula) Ash.
Besides her parents, Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Joseph and brother, Max.
A heartfelt thank you to Mom’s close friends, Irene and Margie. Thank you to Mom’s nurse Luci; for her care and support at home during her final days and to the incredible nurses of 4D (CBRH). We will always be grateful for the wonderful people Mom had in her life.
There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Memorials may be made to the Red Cross.
