Obituary
«Well, this is nice!» Lillian would repeatedly say whenever family gathered. And though she was not able to say it this time, we all heard it as tears were shed, laughs were had, and memories shared by her family in the days before her passing.
Lillian Beatrice Adelia Elliott (nee Peyton) left us peacefully, on Saturday, July 30th, 2022 after a long struggle with dementia, surrounded by family – something she would have loved, as the love of (and for) her family was her greatest joy and greatest strength. She was 87.
Lillian, Lil, was many things to many people: Mom, Nanny, GG (great-grandmother), wife, friend, successful business woman. She was a member of many community groups including the United Church Women, Lioness, and the Royal Canadian Legion. The people who loved her would describe her as loving, devoted, sweet, energetic, curious, tenacious, matriarchal, protective, funny, thoughtful, and kind.
Lillian was born and raised in Botwood, NL. She moved to Stephenville in 1959 with her husband Roy and two children (soon to be three), where she immediately befriended many in the community.
Lil will be missed by so many, especially: her daughter Eleanor Rose (Eddie); sons: Roy (Ann) and Gary (Donna); grandchildren: Elisa, Lori, Karen, Gayle, Jennifer, Megan, and Mitchel; great-grandchildren: Ray, Jacob, Bryar, Gabriella, Emma, Ryan, Jack, Carter, Ben, and Lily (her name sake); brother Graham Hayter (Mona); sister Marie Snow; sister-in-law Eleanor Ball; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Roy and other loving family members.
Following her wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31st from 7:00-9:00 PM at Russell’s Funeral Home, Stephenville. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 1st at 11:00 AM from the First United Church, Stephenville. Interment to follow at Hillside Interfaith Cemetery.
Special thanks and gratitude go to the people at Acadian Village and the Still Waters wing of Western Long Term Health Care Home where the care and attention she received (as did we) could not have been better. Eleanor and Lori, you were Mom’s (and Dad’s) steadfast advocates and their rock.
Mom, may you reconnect with past friends and family in heaven. They’ve been waiting for you (and your walnut cookies). Do they have Wheel of Fortune up there?
You will be immensely missed and forever loved. Fly with the angels, our beautiful mama.
