Lawrence’s Obituary
DAWSON, Lawrence “Larry” Douglas – Age 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in his home in Hectanooga, Nova Scotia, surrounded by family and friends after a very courageous battle with cancer. Born in Toronto on August 28, 1945, he was a son of the late Robert Alexander and Dorothy (Kempling) Dawson.
Larry was an Automotive Mechanic, Brake Specialist and Test Driver, Certified Millwright, Manager, and Trainer. He worked for several companies including Royal Industries/Certified Brakes until he opened his own twelve car garage called “The Problem Car Centre.” From there he joined Bell Canada/Progistix until he retired in 2006 but was lured out of retirement by Johnston Equipment.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 45 years, Katherine; son Ian (Pam); and granddaughters, Cassidee and Maygen; great grandsons, Shane & Jacob; sister, Maryon Kushner; brother, Bob Dawson (Merri); nieces and nephews, Teenae, Michael, Heather, Maggi, Robyn, Peter, Merrion, Ross, Aimée, Danielle, Eric; great nieces and nephews, Brianna, Elliott , Noah, Isaac and Will.
Larry loved helping people and was a mentor to many. He always had an ear and a sound piece of advice. He had a lifetime of volunteer work including United Way, Children’s Aid, Fireman/President Hectanooga Fire Department, Clare Citizens Review Committee, Rails To Trails.
He always had a good joke, bringing a smile to everyone he met. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, boater, curler & golfer. He was known as MacGyver always finding a creative way to fix people’s equipment and vehicles. Of course, we cannot forget his beloved 1954 Pontiac that he loved taking people for rides in.
He enjoyed being with friends and for relaxation he composed poems inspired by everyday life and solving puzzles, especially Sudoku.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for Larry will be held for family and friends at his home, Sunday, December 4, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. A private burial will be at a later date in St. Cleophas Cemetery, Hectanooga.
In particular, the family would like to express their gratitude to Gail Comeau, Adrien Comeau and Amanda Thibault, Palliative & Supportive Care, Josée Soucie, Yarmouth Hospital Pharmacy and everyone who helped during this difficult time.
