Obituary of Kim Taylor
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kimberly (Kim) Dayle Taylor, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 49 years.
You always knew where you stood with Kim. Her straight forwardness and her humour were always at the forefront. She had a strong sense of values and could tell the difference between what was right, what was wrong, and what was fair, and had no problem telling you this. Kim pushed the limits and was ready to cause goodhearted mischief at a moment’s notice. If Kim and her sister, Kauri, ever got in trouble as young children – which would result in a spank from their dad when he got home from work – Kauri always wanted Kim to get the strap first. This may seem cowardly of the big sister, but Kim would say something like “dad, do you ever have y eyeballs,” or some other thing that would make dad laugh. The well-deserved spanks were not quite so hard after that.
A neighbourhood in Dawson Creek full of lifelong friends was Kim’s childhood home. Riding bikes, having huge water fights in the summer, playing “Little House on the Prairie” and “office” in the basement with her sister, and making igloos in the winter were some of her favourite childhood activities. As Kim grew up, the home telephone (yes, the kind that was connected to the wall) was how she stayed in contact with friends. If she ever got grounded as a teenager, taking the phone away was the punishment, and oh what a punishment that was for her. Kim surrounded herself with people, as a teenager there was always a weekend sleepover with close girlfriends or, after the Friday night hockey game, a movie night at the Taylor house with sometimes the whole hockey team attending. By the age of 12, Kim was a pro at driving the blue Scout 4×4 with a standard transmission. Driving would become a love that would follow her through her adult years. She demanded to be in the driver’s seat most of the time. Oh, and that phone, it never was far from Kim, even as an adult.
Kim was a quick study and was very successful all through her educational years and made the Honour Roll list on a regular basis. Kim graduated from South Peace Senior Secondary school in 1990 and had a custom made white and teal tuxedo made just for that occasion. Later in life she tackled long distant learning with office administration courses.
Being a social butterfly, Kim loved working with the public. When she was a teenager, she worked at the Dairy Queen and became a lifelong friend to the owner. After graduation, Kim worked at the Lakeview Credit Union for over 17 years. First as a teller and then working her way up the management ladder. During the years that her 3 boys were young, Kim became a successful homemaker. She not only kept herself busy with raising her boys, but she also cleaned many homes out in the Tomslake area. When her youngest boy started school, she started working at School District 59. First at the board office and then later at Pouce Coupe Elementary School.
Kim became an amazing cook and baker, loved to go to the casino, and traveled to many warm places to sit in the sun. She connected with strangers and children alike and could draw out even the timid child, but the biggest accomplishment of her life was raising her boys. Setting up playdates, swimming lessons, and driving the boys to sports. Kim was in her element with a household of her children’s friends all running around and just having fun.
Kim is survived by her 3 boys, Byrch, Caleb, and Garrett Grant, all grown into amazing young men that she loved deeply and was very proud of. Her mom and dad, Jarvis and Sylvia (Clease) Taylor; her sister Kauri Taylor-Cook and her husband Paul Cook; her niece Bryher; and by many devoted family members and friends – you know who you are.
As a family we would like to send a big thank you to Dr. Botha Sr., Dr. Smitz, and all the Dawson Creek hospital nurses for the gentle, compassionate care that was given to Kim.
I will miss my little sister. From day one she was the sister I got to mother, even if she didn’t want me to. She was my sister who picked my ass, and I would chase down the street before going to school. She was my sister who would laugh with me, even though it may not have always been appropriate. She was my sister who would spend time with me while we raised our children, even though we didn’t always agree how this should be done. She was my sister who taught me how to let me hair down, even though that isn’t how I roll. She was my sister who gave me the privilege of the last moments of her life, even though that was the toughest thing I have ever done. I will miss my little sister.
Love you girl.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Because of Kim’s relationship with her trusted companion, Floyd the dachshund, who comforted her in good times and bad, she wished in lieu of flowers, for friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Kim to the SPCA South Peace Branch, 11418 3rd Street, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 4L5.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium.
