June Margaret Bowes
1930 – 2022
June Margaret Bowes of Miramichi, NB, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the age of 92. Wife of the late Frank Bowes, who passed away in 1999, months short of their 50th wedding anniversary. Born in Parrsboro, NS in 1930, the daughter of the late Vincent and Margaret (McAleese) McNamara.
June was a homemaker raising her nine children. In 1981 she went to work for 20 years at Waye’s Grocery and Mike’s Mini Mart. Upon retirement she spent many years babysitting her grandchildren.
She was a lady of great faith and was a proud member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the senior church choir. Mom loved to knit and quilt, and she made hundreds of pairs of mittens for the Christmas tree at the church every year.
June was the best baker and cook and was well known for her molasses cookies and homemade bread. Her door was always open for a meal or a cookie and a cup of tea. Besides cooking and baking, June loved gardening, she had a green thumb caring for her flowers and plants. She also loved to decorate her house and always had a hammer and nail ready to hang a new picture. She loved to get out to her weekly card clubs over the years, where she made lifelong friendships.
Her whole world was centered around her family.
June is survived by her children: Donnie of Morrisburg, ON, Alan (Lynn) of Derby Junction, NB, Frank of Miramichi, NB, Chris of Miramichi, NB, Shawn (Nicole) of Sunny Corner, NB, Paula (Pat) of Miramichi, NB, Suzanne (Greg) of South Esk, NB, Paul (Sue) of Miramichi, NB and Barbara (Jaime) of Amherst, NS, special daughters in law: Gail Bowes, Jane Donaldson and Denise St. Pierre, 10 grandchildren: Lesley Bowes, Derrick Bowes, Shayne Mullin (Karyn), Brady Mullin, Maggie Rogers (Matt), Chelsie Underhill (Trevor), Chase Corcoran, Franky Corcoran, Emma Bowes and Evan Bowes, six great grandchildren: Lucian Kenny, Claire and Kate Underhill, Jack and Molly Rogers and Marvin Mullin, sister: Carol Mitchell of Miramichi, NB, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents and husband Frank, June is predeceased by, great grandson, Nolan Underhill, siblings: Donnie, Brian, Bill, Keith McNamara, and Lois Lee.
The family would like to thank the staff for the excellent care mom received during her stay in the hospital. Thank you to Dr. Gerard Losier and all the staff on 2 East and 4 East. Special thanks to Maureen Tucker, Francine Leblanc, Laura Blakely, Victoria Godfrey, Kelly Barter, Demi Theriault and Susan Lannan-Mcleod. Mom was thrilled with the extra attention over the years she received from Dr. Camille Haddad and to Ellen Donovan who as her care giver allowed her to live in her own home up until the last couple of months.
Visitation will take place at Bell’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
