Joey Roy Saulnier 2022

Joey’s Obituary
SAULNIER, Joey R. – Age 44 of Hectanooga, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, November 27th, 2022. Born in Yarmouth Hospital, he was a son of Doris (Deveau) Saulnier, Hectanooga, and the late Ulysse Saulnier.
Joey is survived by his siblings, Doreen (Steve) Brannen, Briar Lake; Basil (Jean), Salmon River Lake; Randy (Sharon), Harrington Road; Dave (Alayna) Mardigras Road; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Eric), Ryan, Sawyer and Landyn.
He was predeceased by his niece, Camryn.
For those of you who did not know Joey, you would have liked him, and he would have liked you.
When Joey was born, his parents were told of all the struggles he would face. But look at his photographs; look what he did. They show him laughing, smiling, bowling, fishing, and curling. He attended the Inclusion Clare, was the Hectanooga watch guard, our family’s memory bank of birthdays and made a mean cup of coffee for everyone who entered his home. He was a big teddy bear powered by his mother’s homemade cooking. His smile could light any room and his laughter was contagious. He was the happiest person we have ever known. He taught us a lot. We love him and miss him dearly.
Joey was quiet, usually; unless tormented by his brothers or playing Wii games with his family members. He looked forward to Sunday family suppers, trout fishing and bird watching.
Joey’s skills weren’t reserved for the virtual world. He could often be found competing in Special Olympic sports and adding another medal to his trophy wall!
He was a godfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend to many. He enjoyed playful
Banter, Christmas traditions and was always up for an adventure. Joey’s most loved adventure, a family trip to Cuba where he got to swim with the dolphins.
The family would like to thank Joey’s mom, Doris for all she did to give him a beautiful life; it was not easy. She, along with Ulysse, gave forty four years of their lives to do this. And while we know that being the people they were, they could not have done otherwise, they still deserve our thanks, gratitude and love.
Death, among other things, is a reminder and an opportunity. It is a reminder of our own mortality, that our hopes, fears and desires are fleeting, transient, impermanent. But it is also an opportunity to identify with all those who suffer as we suffer; it is a link to our common humanity. It is an opportunity to pause and look at what is really important right this moment, because this moment is all we have.
A friend shared a story of a girl being laid to rest with a fork in her right hand entitled “Keep your fork”:
When the dishes of a main course meal are being cleared, someone without a doubt will lean over and say, “Keep your fork”. It was the girl’s favorite part because she knew that something better was coming, like gram’s cheesecake or apple pie – something wonderful, delicious and with substance!
Therefore, she wanted people to see her in the casket with a fork in her hand and she wanted them to know………… “The best is yet to come”.
As we honour Joey’s memory and keep him alive in our heart, take a minute to consider this:
What will you do with your moment? If we might make some suggestions:
Smile, laugh, take seconds and keep your fork!
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home where visitation will take place on Wednesday, November 30th from 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11:30 in Stella Maris Church, Meteghan with Rev. Hospice Akoffodji officiating. Burial will follow in St. Cleophas Cemetery, Hectanooga.
Donations in memory may be made to Clare Special Olympics or to Inclusion Clare (formerly known as Atelier de Clare).
Joey, may you be at peace. May you be at rest with your dad. May you know that we’ll always remember you and we hope the best is yet to come.
With all our love.
