Obituary of Joe Percy
Joseph Arthur Percy – at KGH on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in his 85th year. Reunited with the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Barbara Adele, parents Grant Percy and Marion Walker, brother David (Claudia) and sister Angela (Larry). Remaining to remember him are his devoted son Tyler Jay, loving sister Kim (Charlie), Grandpa’s Little Sweetheart Moira Evelyn and his nieces and nephews.
Joe was a 33rd Degree Freemason at Albion Lodge 109 and Scottish Rite Kingston. He always looked forward to hunting and fishing with his friends, usually followed by a wee whisky or beer, but usually both. He also had a passion for birdwatching and bird counts with Kingston Field Naturalists. Later he travelled to Costa Rica, Brazil, Kenya and Ecuador in search of birds to add to his life list.
Joe had fond memories of spending Canada Day at the cottage with his family and friends. He loved classic country music, late night marbles and card games with Barb and their friends. Joe spent 35 years as an elementary school teacher and principal. In his last years he began teaching the grandchildren of his first students. Everyone knew Joe.
Joe’s family would like to recognize the incredible dedication, support and kindness of The Alzheimer’s Society of Kingston, Hildegarde Centre, Driving Miss Daisy, Heart 2 Heart and, in his last days, the nurses and staff of Davies 4 and Connell 10 at KGH.
Joe’s family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2022. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 2:00 pm. A private family interment will be held at Opinicon Cemetery next year in the Spring.
Donations in Joe’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Kingston would be appreciated by his family.
