Joe’s Obituary
CORBETT, Joe – Called to his eternal heavenly reward from the arms of his loving family at his home in Colliers, Joe Corbett – Age 59 years.
Joe will be forever loved, cherished, remembered and celebrated by: his life partner of 42 years, his wife Linda; his precious sons and their spouses, Kyle (Anne), Robert (Brittany), and Dylan; his greatest treasures – his grandchildren Owen, Allie, and Maggie; and his canine pal Chico. Waiting to greet Joe in his eternal rest is his father Patrick Corbett. Also, mourning Joe’s passing and celebrating his life and memory are: his mother Margaret Corbett; his sisters and brothers Patricia (Glenn Pender), David (Nina), Lena, Bob (Tammy), and Sherry Ann (Sammy Parsons); his mother-in-law Ann Marie Cole (Aiden McHugh); his father-in-law Bernie Cole (Mary Gushue); his sisters-in-law Brenda Cole (Pete Ryan) and Bernadette Cole-Gendron (Dan Gendron); his nieces and nephews of whom he was extremely proud and of whom he delighted in hearing of the accomplishments of each and every one; his nephew Alex Corbett with whom he shared a father-like bond; and lifelong family friends, the Hawco family.
Joe was a humble man who worked deligently with Linda to build a life for their family. He was born with a builder’s vision and skill and had a successful career as a ironworker where he was employed in several provinces across Canada on a wide array of projects. He took immense pride in his work and held himself to the highest standard. He was most proud of the projects on which he worked with his sons reconizing the value of the time spent with them both as a professional mentor and as a father. When not carrying the tools of his ironwork trade, Joe could be found working at carpentry – a gift he inherited from his father. He proudly built homes for his family and worked on projects with friends – his incredible work ethic and innate knowledge to find ways to get a job done always present.
Joe lived his life by embracing the principals of honesty, integrity, hard work and enjoying simple pleasures. His favorite way to spend a Saturday evening after a busy week’s work as to relax with his pal Aiden and his buddy Chico while watching a John Wayne movie or listening to George Jones tunes and enjoying a few beer. His philosophy in life was truly simple – «do unto others».
Our family has lost our rock who we could always depend on to find a solution to any problem with his quiet wisdom. Yet no one who is truly loved is ever lost. Joe will always be present in our hearts and minds and his legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren. Poppy Chico will forever be a guardian angel watching over his babies. His family understood that they were always his number one priority.
We extend our thanks to Dr. Russell Lake and Mrs. Carol Ann Lake and their respective staff for their professionalism, responsiveness and empathy during Joe’s illness. Special thanks to our family and friends who supported us in many ways including the garage project which, true to form for Joe, he pushed to completion. A warrior to the end.
Resting at Flaherty’s Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, with visitation times to be announced.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Church, Avondale, at a time to be announced.
Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers.
Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the Cancer Care Foundation or to Immaculate Conception Parish Memorial Fund.
