It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Desda “Joanne” Wright (nee Smith), who passed peacefully in Petrolia, Ontario with her family at her side on Monday, December 5, 2022. Joanne was the beloved wife to the late Don (2021) and the cherished mother to Kathy Hollinworth (the late Paul, 2016), Donna Stewart, Cindy Stewart (Bob) and John Stewart (Darlene) and stepmother of Cheryl Wright (Kevin Hartley) and Don Wright (Kathy). She was dearly loved by her grandchildren, Rob Hollinworth, Giverny (Zane), Jarrod, and Demara, Natasha Aines, Michael Wright, and Rebecca Hartley, and by great-grandchildren Mia, Ava and Madeleine. She will be missed by several siblings and their families in PEI and by many dear friends in Ottawa. She was predeceased by her parents Clifford and Margaret Smith.
Joanne and Don had a great life together and brought joy to everyone they visited across the country from coast to coast. They camped in the Ottawa valley, travelled annually to PEI and Florida and went all over the world, sightseeing in Panama, Hawaii, and Alaska, to name a mere few. Joanne began her working life in the Canadian Armed Forces and had a long career with the National Transportation Safety Board in Ottawa where she and Don shared their lives together. She will be dearly missed, especially this time of year. She adored Christmas, was famous for her shortbread cookies and beautiful singing voice. She was a kid at heart and couldn’t pass a playground without jumping on a swing-set and singing carols, no matter the time of year.
Joanne will be laid to rest beside her husband at Kinkardine Cemetery at a later date. A memorial service will take place. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton.
