Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Bluewater Health, Jo-Ann Gertrude Loyer passed away at the age of 63.
Beloved wife of the late Duane Loyer (2007). Loving mother of Brianne (Mark Pinda) and Janna Loyer. Cherished grandmother of Harper, Owyn, and Jordyn. Dear sister of Diana Jacob (Jim Rooney), Ken (Pat) Maaten, and Sylvia Maaten. Treasured Aunt of Jenna (Michael) Talosi, Ian (Melanie) Maaten, Jeffrey (Christine) Maaten, Dayna (Adam) Ward, Daniel (Miranda) Walton, Sarah Maaten (Gavin Giles), and Jacob Maaten. Predeceased by her parents Pieter and Janna Maaten; her brothers Richard (late Lynda) Maaten, Peter (Jan) Maaten, and Mark Maaten.
Jo-Ann started her career as a Child and Youth Worker at the Sarnia Community Girls Home. It was here that she made life long friendships and met her future husband, Duane. She made the transition to what is now Bluewater Health in 1989 where she worked as an Addiction Counsellor. She retired in 2019, just before the birth of her first granddaughter.
In Jo-Ann’s retirement, she became an avid hiker exploring the trails of South Western Ontario.
A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation held prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Breast Cancer Society of Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please).
