Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, grammy, great grammy and friend Jean Weichel, at the age of 86. Jean was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba to William and Margaret Coltart. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her sisters Lola Tarr and Audrey Malek and brothers Jack and Harvey Coltart.
Jean was a registered nurse, having trained at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. She was a supervisor of Portage Hospital and later worked in the operating rooms at hospitals in Winnipeg, Portage and Stratford. She was with The Victorian Order of Nurses in Perth County for 15 years and was a volunteer with the Palliative Care Unit of the Southampton Hospital for 20 years.
Surviving is husband John Weichel. Also surviving are two children from her first marriage, Kim and her partner Jim Stewart and their three children and families, Keane and partner Zoë and their children Wyatt, Dakota and Georgia, Alek and partner Brittany and their children Charley, Ainsley and Harpur and Alison and partner Brandon and their children Levon and Remy. Brian Keast and his partner Michelle O’Donovan and their children Kona and Haydn.
Jean’s second family includes the three children of her husband John Weichel. Tanya Weichel and her children Emily and partner Adam, Kellam and partner Brittany, Rowan and Koehler. Tim Weichel and his partner Amy and their three children Brendan, Mollie and partner Eric and Madeleine and Matthew Weichel and his family Sam and partner Emily, Harry and partner Clara, Hugh and partner Abbie. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Marlene Coltart and Anne Coltart and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Jean’s request there will be no funeral service. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Walker House in Southampton on November 26 from 12-4. A light lunch will be provided. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honour to the Southampton Hospital or a charity of your choice.
