Dorothy Janet Wild entered into rest on September 30, 2022 at Extendicare Kawartha Lakes.
Jan’ Wild (nee Henson) was in her 91st year. She was born at Kirby Muxloe, Leister, UK in 1931 and left home at the age of 16 to work at the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital in Cheshire, England. She went on to study nursing at the Royal Halifax Infirmary in Yorkshire graduating in 1950. In Halifax, Janet met and married Alan Wild and in 1958 the couple emigrated to a new life in Canada. After living in Toronto, Cobourg and Whitby, they settled in Lindsay in 1962 and stayed for the rest of their lives. Janet loved Canada from the first day, citing the “beautiful blue Canadian skies ” that greeted her. The couple raised two daughters, Jane and Kathleen (Lee MacLeod, predeceased) and welcomed 4 grandsons, Matthew (Kelly) and Alexander (Eunice) Marshall and Martin and Austin MacLeod Wild as well as two great–grandsons, Lucas Marshall and Finnegan Marshall. Predeceased by her husband Alan, and sister Beryl Picton of Barnet, North London, UK, Janet leaves behind nieces and nephews in the UK and her cousin Mary Linard in Montreal. Janet was very proud of her long career in health care as she devoted over 20 years to nursing at Lindsay’s Ross Memorial Hospital. Many will remember Janet and Alan for their work building the Lindsay Rugby Club from its infancy with a few friends around their kitchen table to the thriving recreational club it is today. Countless rugby celebrations were held at their country home, ‘Maple Lane’. Janet’s hobbies were gardening and travel and with Alan she enjoyed visiting Australia, Europe, and all across Canada and the US. In retirement Janet volunteered with the Lindsay Gallery, Ross Memorial Hospital, Womens Resources Vicky’s Values, and the Alzheimer’s Society. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Visitation will take place at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street N in Lindsay on Sunday October 16, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm. Memorial remarks will be at 2:30 pm. The family extends thanks to the staff at Caressant Care Retirement Home and to Extendicare Kawartha Lakes.
