Passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the age of 89, James W. Smith of Pembroke, originally of Goole, Yorkshire, England. Beloved husband of the late Rose Smith (nee Marritt). Loving father of Stephen Smith (Debbi), grandfather of Matthew (Tamara), step-grandfather of Shannon (Tyler) and Kristen (Dave), and step-great-grandfather of Pearl, Penny and Georgia. Son of the late Sam and Mary Elizabeth (nee Brooksbank). Loving brother to Mary Plowes (Allan) and the late Maud Costello (Bill) all of Goole, Yorkshire, England. Dear uncle to Melanie (Dave), Ian (Rosslyn) and Jonathan (Claire), also of Yorkshire, England. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lisa Cross and all of the other incredible and caring people who helped Jim on his journey.
Respecting James’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date at Pinecrest Remembrance Cemetery. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted in the care of Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home and Tubman Funeral Homes.
