Obituary
James (Jim) Frederick Shepherd was promoted to glory at Sechelt Hospital on the afternoon of October 10, 2022 at the age of 79 and our world was forever changed.
Born to the late Fred and Annie Shepherd on April 30, 1943, in New Westminster, BC and pre-deceased by his youngest daughter, Tammy, Jim leaves decades of fond and colourful memories for his beloved wife, Beth Shepherd (Hawken), daughter Debbie Shepherd, and stepchildren, Tim Raw (Trish), Laura-Lee McNab (Gord), Vicki Raw (Pete Scales), Alleta Raw and Darcy Hawken. He also leaves behind his sister, Gladys.
Jim loved being grandpa to Rob, Amanda, Keri and Angie, Dustin, Shane and Nathan, Leeanne, Christin, Marcel and Matthew, Eli and Evan, and Dillan and Jaden, and cherished his 8 great grandchildren.
Working for years as a Machine Tender for the Howe Sound Pulp & Paper mill, Jim forged many life-long friendships and, according to the many, many stories he so enjoyed sharing, he spent a fair amount of time getting into mischief planning and executing harmless pranks on fellow employees. Jim also gave back to his community, completing the RCMP’s Auxiliary Constable Program and volunteering as an auxiliary police officer from 1978-1995.
A gentle soul with a quiet sense of humour, Jim often amused himself (and others) by leaving cryptic drawings with hidden messages for people to decipher. He had an adventurous side, as well, and he and Beth enjoyed numerous road trips on his Honda Silverwing motorcycle before buying their first cabin cruiser and eventually transitioning to full-time living on the “Eliza James” at the Gibsons Marina.
Jim found great joy in his regular coffee sessions with his buddies at the Marina and Crazy Red’s, puttering with his tools, fixing old toys, creating his own unique masterpieces (such as wooden Fly Killers), and spending time with loved ones. We are grateful for so many wonderful memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gibsons Legion Hall on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 1pm – 4pm. In lieu of flowers, Jim would probably be happiest if you went for coffee with a friend and shared some of your favourite stories involving him. If you feel the need to do something more significant, a gift to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC would be appreciated.
