J. Leonard Delaney
1933-2022
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of
Leonard Delaney of Moncton on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at
the Briarlea. Born in Grand Etang, NS he was the son of the
late Amedée and Marie (Doucet) Delaney.
Leonard spent his career in the mental health field. From
1961 to 1965 he worked at the provincial hospitals in Saint John and
Campbellton. In September 1965 he joined the staff of the
St. Charles Hospital in Joliette. In 1967, he was named
director of the Social Service Department of the Pierre Janet Hospital
in Hull. In 1970 he returned to New Brunswick to the post of
director of community services of the mental health division. After
retirement, Leonard had many hobbies which included stain glass and
woodworking, but his most passionate was cycling. He and
Elizabeth cycled in many countries travelling with
Elderhostle. However their best cycling trips were doing the
Cabot Trail and Prince Edward Island from one end to the
other. He attended the Holy Family Roman Catholic
Church.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Elizabeth Delaney;
daughters Giselle (Charles) Duguay, Stephanie Turner (Rob Bridges);
six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Aside from
his parents he was predeceased by sisters Denise, Hilda, Marie Zelana,
Marguerite and Sophie.
A service celebrating his life will take place at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine
Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 11:00 am
with Father Phil Mulligan presiding. The family asks that if
you are feeling ill please refrain from attending. The
interment will take place at the Alderwood Cemetery at a later
date. Leonard’s family wish to thank the
management and staff of the Briarlea for their care and
compassion. Donations made to Friends of the Moncton
Hospital would be appreciated by his family. Online
