WELL KNOWN WOLFVILLE
RESIDENT DIES AT THE AGE OF 97.
Hubert
Franklyn Sullivan, age 97, of Wolfville passed away peacefully on
Friday, December 16, 2022. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late
Howard and Hazel (Smith) Sullivan and stepson of the late Muriel
(Smith) Sullivan.
Hubert
served overseas in Belgium and Holland with the West Nova Regiment in
WWII. Upon moving to Wolfville in 1952, he started working with Nova
Scotia Power, retiring after 38 years of service as a Line Supervisor.
In 1955, he joined the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch
No. 74, Wolfville and was gifted a Memory Watch in 2017 for being one
of the oldest Legion members in the Wolfville branch. He was a pioneer
in starting little league baseball and lacrosse in the area and served
on town council for many years. He was an avid curler and curled into
his late 90s. Above all else, he was a loving husband, father and
grandfather.
Hubert
will be dearly missed by his wife of 73 years, Merriam (Amirault);
children, Margo (Alex) Leonard, JoAnne (George) Spencer, Cheryl
(Norman) MacIntyre, Wayne (Margaret) Sullivan and Roxana Jeffrey;
sisters, Hilda Stuart, Sylvia Donaldson and Bernice Agrell;
grandchildren, Alexis and Patrick Leonard, Sarah Spencer, Beth
Roberts, Amy MacIntyre, Katie Sullivan, Jocelyn Redmon, James, Andrew
and Benjamin Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Adalynn, Mary Grace,
Spencer, Merriam, Easton and Chesley; as well as many nieces, nephews
and extended family.
In
addition to his parents and stepmother, he was predeceased by his
son-in-law, Charles Jeffrey; as well as several
siblings.
The
family would like to thank Dr. Hazen Burton, homecare workers Judy
Upshaw and Jill Veinot as well as the VON for their excellent care and
compassion.
Cremation has taken place and there
will be no visitation by request. A combined legion and funeral
service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 in the
White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, followed by a reception. A
private family interment will take place in Willow Bank Cemetery,
Wolfville, at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the
Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C.B. Lumsden Branch No. 74. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line
