DURHAM, Hazel (Iverson)
September 29, 1932 – January 1, 2022
With swollen eyes and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Hazel Durham. She died peacefully in the morning on New Year’s Day, at the age of 89 and finally “made her exit,” as she would put it.
Hazel is survived by her brother, Ken, daughter, Charlotte (Tony) and her two grandchildren, Taylor and Carlee. She had numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Ella, husband, Art Durham (1988), daughters, Cynthia and Matlock (born Glenda), sisters Ruby and Shirley, brothers, James, Allan, Hank, Charles, Joe and Leo.
Originally from Naicam, Saskatchewan, Vancouver Island was home to her for many years and was her favorite place. Her marriage to Art brought her back to the prairies and a different life. Hazel was a proud member of the Legion and also the Drayon Valley and Edmonton Oil Wive’s club. She was a ton of fun and always liked to laugh. She enjoyed travelling, dancing and in later years, her yearly trips to Mexico. She helped care for her grandchildren and was a big part of their lives for many years. Hazel also had a fondness for poetry.
“A flame that burned brightly, now quenched.”
A celebration of life will take place Friday, January 28, at 2:00 pm, at the Drayton Valley Legion, 5204 51 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a foundation of your choice.
