It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey at the Brantford General Hospital on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in his 95th year. Harvey leaves his loving wife of 72 years, Elizabeth; son Philip (Debra), daughters Susan Farley (Bruce), Mary Johnson and her four legged companion Molly. Predeceased by his father Frank, mother Emma and brothers Cecil and Elton. Much loved grandfather of Sarah (Trevor), Aaron (Stephanie), Joel (Jessica), Jordan (Heather), Kaitlyn (Brandon), Heather (Matt), Emily (Tom), Scott (Kevin), Allison, Christine and 28 great-grandchildren, (with one of the way). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harvey attended Maple Grove Public School, Mt. Pleasant Continuation School, BCI; Ontario College of Pharmacy (U of T) and became a lifetime Pharmacist in 1950. In 1953 he opened Harvey C. Smith Drugs, the first pharmacy in Echo Place. He retired 43 years later with Emeritus issued by the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Harvey was a member of many organizations, associations and committees including St. Andrew’s United Church; Kiwanis (member 26 years); Canadian Mental Health Association; James Hillier Foundation; Brantford Pharmacists Association; Canadian Cancer Society; Brant Curling Club. Harvey was one of the first Pharmacists to dispense penicillin in the 1940’s after being introduced to fight infection. Special thanks go to Harvey’s loyal customers, church friends and good neighbours throughout the years. Friends will be received at the McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road North, Brantford on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The family would like to request masks to be worn during the visitation and funeral service. Funeral Service at St. Andrew’s United Church, 95 Darling Street, Brantford on Friday, May 27, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery. If wished, memorial donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society gratefully appreciated.
