Obituary For Gregory Robert Loewen
It is with heavy hearts and much love, that we announce the passing of a very special man, Gregory “Greg” Loewen, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Slave Lake, AB, on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, AB, at the age of 53 years.
His family, friends and acquaintances will remember Greg for being loving, kind-hearted, generous, patient, hard-working, supportive, devoted (to his family and work), caring, thoughtful, selfless, his calm nature and humour.
Greg was born in Vanderhoof, BC. During his childhood, he lived in various places throughout British Columbia because of his dad’s logging business. His family arrived in Slave Lake in 1985. Greg worked in the logging industry until the summer of 1993 and then he began his long-accomplished career in the oilfield. He started with Nowsco, Nowsco-Fracmaster, Trican Well Service, and then Magnum Cementing Services. Greg and his family moved to Grande Prairie in January of 2001 to begin his career with Trican Well Service whom he worked for until 2018. He then started with Magnum Cementing Services on September 14, 2018, until his passing where he was an integral part of their MCIT Team. As per his company, he had the utmost integrity and accountability in all the work that he did.
Greg loved what he did, and he excelled at it. He was always dedicated and proud of his career. He was a leader, a mentor and a friend to many. Anyone that worked with Greg loved his charming personality and calm demeanour. Many wonderful friendships were formed throughout his career. Greg’s work ethic and passion were infectious. He touched so many people in a positive way.
He met the love of his life, Shauna, in Slave Lake and they were married on July 4, 1992. They had three beautiful children: Brandon, Paige and Blair, all of whom he adored and was so proud of. Greg was a lover of babies and animals, and they all seemed to be naturally drawn to him. During his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and then on to his Junior B hockey.
Greg enjoyed camping, sledding, or anything outdoors, and was always dreaming of that retirement Harley and motorhome. We are heartbroken that he did not get to fulfill that dream. He worked hard to ensure his family had their heart’s desire and more. We will miss this amazing, beautiful human with all our hearts, that beautiful smile and that endless sense of humour, we were so blessed to have had you. Your unconditional love for us will carry us through the hard days without you. We will love you forever.
Greg will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Shauna of 29 years; children: Brandon, Paige and Blair; father Norm (Eileen) Loewen; sister Wendy (Les) Price; brothers Jason (Sharon) Loewen and Alan Loewen; father in-law and mother in-law Howard and Gail Robertson; sister in-law Roxanne (Doug) Gillrie; as well as numerous and very special nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Greg was predeceased by his mother Rita Anne Loewen; sister Phyllis Lovelace; niece Melissa Lovelace; paternal grandparents Cornelius and Marie Loewen; as well as maternal grandparents Dick and Louise Starlight.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 1:00pm, at the St. Peter Celestin Catholic Church in Slave Lake (200B 3 Ave NW). Luncheon to follow in the hall after the service.
The family would like to thank the many family and friends for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
A special thank you to Magnum Cementing Services, we are so grateful for all you have done for us, and the Tsuut’ina Nation for their support.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke of Alberta (100-119 14 St. NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6).
