Obituary
Colborne, Gloria Louise – 76, Amherst, died peacefully at Gables Lodge, Amherst on November 4th, 2022. Born in Wyvern, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Ira Colborne and Verna (Colborne) (Keiver) Giles. Gloria was well known for her involvement and dedication to the Al-Anon Family Groups and she was also a long time volunteer at the Amherst Hospital. She was a member of Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church and United Church Women. After retirement, her main hobby was oil painting and looking after her precious pets. Prior to retiring in 2010, Gloria was employed as an accounting clerk/secretary at Novapet, Inc. in Amherst. She also did accounting and secretarial work for J&P Logging Ltd. and Wentworth Lumber Ltd. in Oxford, was the Constituency secretary at the Cumberland North MLA office, and prior to that was the Constituency secretary for the Cumberland West MLA office. In the late 70’s and early 80’s, she helped to operate a campground in Oxford. For many years while her children were young, Gloria was a well known seamstress as well as a homemaker, earlier preceded by working as a teller and clerk at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Truro, NS and Pembroke, Ont. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa McNeil, Halifax; sisters, Margaret Colborne, Amherst; Carol Fisher, Vananda, BC; Ardith (Tom) Barron, Moncton, NB; brothers, Lawrence (Margaret) Colborne, St. Stephen, NB; Wade (Donna) Keiver, PEI; two grandchildren, Derya and Amanda Ozturk; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son, David McNeil. Arrangements are in the care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. Donations may be made to LA Animal Shelter.
