Obituary
Glenn Russell Ford
January 25, 1947 – December 3, 2022
Nature lover, dedicated Public Servant of 37 years, and Queen’s Jubilee Medal winner, Glenn left us in the early morning of December 3rd, 2022, after living with dementia for almost a decade. Born to Russell Ford and Ruby Henderson, he was their first son and is predeceased by his sisters Elsie (Roger Simmons), Elva, and Kaye (Norm Nicol) and survived by his younger brother, Brian (Wendy McRae).
Glenn grew up in Carleton Place, attended Carleton Place high school and was a proud member of the 1965 Golden Bears. He worked for many years at the Central Experimental Farm, and moved to Vineland Research Station for several years before retiring with National Defense at Base Petawawa with the base engineers.
A long time vegetarian, Glenn was an environmentalist before it was “cool”. He chose not to eat meat to reduce his environmental impact and was a lover of Harrowsmith magazine and homesteader principles. He knew his way around in a canoe and loved back country camping and fishing. He loved to travel and seemed to like to choose places with no trees! He traveled to Iceland, Northern Canada, Antarctica, Egypt, as well as many places with trees, including Japan, Peru, and everywhere from British Columbia to Newfoundland.
Dedicated father to Beth and Tyler (Anne Marie) and grandfather to Zach, Amelia, and Natalia Medl, and Jake Ford. Survived by his nieces and nephews and many, many cousins.
Alan R. Barker Funeral Home & Chapel, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place ON K7C 2W1 613-257-3113, will hold a public visitation on Thursday, December 08, 2022, starting at 12:00, followed by a celebration of life in the chapel to commence at 1:00 p.m., with refreshments and euchre to follow in the lounge until 4:00 p.m.
His ashes will later be scattered at the Henderson family homestead. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
