With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Barbara Giddings.
Born in Montreal, the daughter of J.W. Halpin and Jennie (Rhicard) and sister to John. Barbara grew up in Granby where she met her “pal” Bill. They married in 1949 and shared 63 happy years together until his death in 2008. She missed him every day.
Barbara’s 8 children were her pride and joy. Gail (Rick), David (Sharron), Bobby (Linda), Cathy (Ron), Sally (Mike), Graham (Kelly), Geoff (Cheryl) and Jody.
She was a beloved Nana to Trevor (BiBi), Tim, Jason (Isela), Jesse, Tyler, Jennie, Bill (Kim), Samantha, Tracey, Emma-Lee and Joshua.
Great Nana was adored by her great grandchildren, Jake, Delaney, Tristan, Brooke, Linda, Jasmine, Tanner, Ava, Mackenzie, Zoe and Sapphire.
Barbara and Bill made St. Lambert their home where they raised their children. They summered at Fessenden Falls in the Eastern Townships. Her children have many fond memories of her leading them on daily adventures.
In their retirement Barbara and Bill lived in Austin, Qc and wintered in Daytona Beach, Fl. There she developed many great friendships and was a regular at the bingo hall and bridge table.
Thoughtful and kind with a devilish twinkle in her eye, Barbara had an infectious love of life. Her childlike enthusiasm and genuine interest in most anything endeared her to many, in particular her grandchildren.
She was always well read in current events and never missed a Daytona 500, Super Bowl or Stanley Cup. Barbara had a great love of fashion – especially her shoes.
She enriched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A private service will be held in the Spring.
