George White

George White was born to Mary and Bert White on December 16, 1947 in Sydney Cove, NL.
It is with sadness that his family announces he passed peacefully away at James Payton Memorial Hospital on August 23, 2022.
George was predeceased by his parents, Bert White, Mary Vivian, and step-father Cecil Vivian. His sister Phyllis Smith, Uncle Mack and Uncle Ted and his brother-in-law Bernard McDonald.
He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 54 years Maggie. Daughter Barb (Dean) Wade, son Bert (Terri) White and daughter Brenda (Gary) Pelley. 5 Grandchildren; Mackenzie, Colbie, Logan, Kalan, and Shaelynn.
He also leaves to mourn his sisters; Abbie (Michael) Slaney, Effie (Lou) Collins, Jessie White, Joan McDonald, Diane (Kevin) Noseworthy, and Rachel (Gary) Lush. His brother, Nick (Sharleen) Vivian and step-brothers Dave (Marie) Vivian and Clarence (Esther) Vivian along with many nieces and nephews.
As a young boy of 9 George moved to Hare Bay with his mother and sisters. It was there he found the love of his life Maggie and they spent 54 years together. George was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending his time with Maggie and they enjoyed their daily walks, visiting their children and grandchildren, taking trips to sunshine countries with their friends and most of all being with each other even if it was only watching T.V. Playing card games and Yahtzee was always a favourite activity for them.
George’s children always knew how much he loved them. He loved to hang out with them, make forts when they were children, play games or sports with them, go for custard cones, and go for drives around the loop together. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He could not wait to see them and play with them. He always had a huge smile on his face whenever he saw them.
George was a hard worker and provided for his family all his life. Carpentry work was his thing and he was especially proud of building his houses in Hare Bay and Dover. George spent many years working with Maggie’s family at the sawmill. Before his retirement George worked at the Dover fish plant for 28 years.
George was always passionate about sports. He played floor hockey, ice hockey, darts, and softball. Saturdays were for watching wrestling and hockey. He was the Toronto Maple Leaf’s #1 fan. We are incredibly sad he did not see them win the Stanley Cup before he died.
George’s favourite colour has always been yellow. Each time his family wears or sees the colour yellow it is sure to bring a wonderful memory of the kind and loving man he was.
