Obituary of Evelyn Arlene Dobson
On Saturday, April 23, 2022, Evelyn passed away at 81 years of age. She was predeceased by her parents, Elenora and Abraham Peters and her brother Randy Peters.
Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald Dobson; her four children and their partners, son Blaine Dobson (Sheila), daughter Melody Jameson (Tom), son Terry Dobson (Joel), and daughter Harmony Szukaylo (Ken); nine grandchildren Kevin Jameson (Amanda), Kaelynne Reid (Nathan), Benjamin Dobson, Isaac Dobson, Elisabeth Dobson, Kaylee Szukaylo, Kyle Szukaylo, Zachary Dobson and Nolan Dobson; and her two great-grandbabies Jeremy and Emma Reid. She is also survived by her sister Susan Kempin (Rudy) and their children and her brother Ralph Baumgartner (Ellen) and their son.
Evelyn was born in Regina and grew up on a farm in the Pilot Butte area. She attended Luther College and completed her education at Teacher’s College. Evelyn started her career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Disley, Saskatchewan where she met Don and they were married in August, 1960.
Evelyn left her career for many years to raise their family of four. She went back to university and upgraded her teaching certificate in the early 70’s and returned to teaching as a substitute teacher for several years. Prior to retirement she worked for the Cooperators Insurance company.
Evelyn and Don enjoyed travelling and were able to see much of the world during their time together. Evelyn fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams to cycle across Canada. She was a determined woman and initiated that dream by dipping her bike tires in the Pacific Ocean and completed her goal over three summers, dipping the bike tires in the Atlantic the year of her 60th birthday. The details in the creation she witnessed, the peace and the solitude that she craved all brought her much joy and her memories of her cross-country journey often sustained her.
Evelyn was an avid reader, loved puzzles and she was a respected gardener for the organic beautiful soil she was able to enrich over the years. Her greatest joy in life were each of her grandchildren who brought joy to her in their unique, individual ways. Evelyn was a woman of strong principle and she maintained a strong faith which she held onto tightly to the end of her battle with cancer. She will be missed.
A big thank you to Dr. Johnson and all the nurses in Palliative Care with a special mention of nurse Janice who cared for Evelyn during her final days.
Honouring Evelyn’s request, a private family graveside service was held at Regina Memorial Gardens.
