Obituary
Evelyn Battison, nee Rudniski, our sweet mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at Cummings Home in Comox, BC, on January 1st, 2022, at the age of 89.
The Funeral Liturgy for the respose of Evelyn will be held on Friday, September 30th, 2022 at 11:00a.m. at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Preeceville Community Cemetery.
Born and raised in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Evelyn went on to attend nursing school in Edmonton, AB. One of her first nursing jobs took her to Alert Bay, BC in 1955 where she met and married Ed Battison. They raised three children and lived an adventuresome and full life on BC’s west coast including the remote location of Trutch Island, Prince Rupert, Salt Spring Island, Sidney (where they spent 47 years), and most recently Comox. As a prairie girl, Evelyn adapted well to West Coast living. Her and Ed explored and toiled the waters for many years on both pleasure and commercial fish boats, visiting old friends and making new ones in countless coastal communities. At home, their door was always open to the nourishment received from their welcoming and generous hospitality. Christmas eves were a celebration of Mom’s heritage with several traditional courses of Ukrainian home cooking shared with extended family and friends around the table. All through her life, Mom quietly embraced her belief in God while respecting other people’s choices and beliefs. We will lovingly remember her for her wisdom, strength and selflessness, her caring and supportive nature, and her cheerful and positive disposition.
Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Ed and son David, her parents Metro and Nellie Rudniski. She leaves behind daughter, Nancy (Jeff); son, Jamie (Mickie); 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; her siblings, Nesthyr, Grace and Marjorie, and some very special long-time friends.
A heartfelt thank you to Evelyn Carruthers, owner of Cummings Home, and all her staff for providing compassionate, home-like care to Mom during her final years. To honour our Mother, please continue spreading her kindness and respect on to others. Shine on Mom!
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Evelyn Rudniski Battison December 2 1932 January 1 2022 (age 89)..
