It is with sadness that we announce that Elsie passed away peacefully at the CHSLD West Island Manor in Pierrefonds on January 23rd, just four months shy of her 96th birthday.
Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Ches Halliday (1990) and is survived by her two loving daughters, Jocelyn Rickaby (Derick Rickaby) and Bev Halliday (Gordon Nisbet; John St. Denis deceased 2020). Elsie was the last survivor of her siblings Janet Wheeler, John Halliday, Floss Oliver, Wilson Halliday and her twin, Minnie Strang. She was the caring grandmother of Jennifer Rickaby (Sean Chambers-Ricciardi) and great grandmother of Mackenzie, Penelope and CeCe Ricciardi. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, and by extended family members in Canada and the US.
Elsie will be remembered as a kind, caring and feisty soul, who loved her family. She was an avid, accomplished bowler who participated in the sport until the age of 92, when she broke her hip. Throughout her life she was handy with a needle and sewed clothes, created beautiful needlepoint and crewel tapestries, and hand stitched quilts which will be treasured forever. She also enjoyed baking, doing puzzles and visiting with family and friends.
A special thank-you to the staff of Château Dollard, where Elsie lived for almost 3 years.

The family will receive condolences at the Yves Legare Funeral Complex, at 14370 Pierrefonds Blvd, on Monday, February 14th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Tuesday, February 15th at 12:00 pm. A service will be held in the chapel at 1:00 pm, followed by the burial at Rideau Memorial Gardens. Covid restrictions apply.
