Elizabeth Ann Leger (Gillespie)

Elizabeth Ann Leger (Gillespie)
The family of Elizabeth Ann Leger announces that their adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully at Oakwood Terrace in Dartmouth on April 13, 2022.
Ann was born in Moncton, N.B. on April 7, 1929, the middle daughter of James F. Gillespie of Parrsboro, N.S. and Elizabeth Cecilia Connors of Moncton. She was a child during the Great Depression and a teenager during the Second World War, during which her beloved mother died when Ann was a young teenager. She had attended primary school in Moncton but after her mother’s death, attended Mount Carmel Academy in Saint John, from which she graduated.
In 1951 Ann married Jules (Rusty) Leger, and they shared a loving, well-travelled marriage of more than 50 years.
Ann and Rusty were always the perfect hosts. Ann adored a social gathering for any occasion and was a keen practitioner of the Maritimer Game. She was quick to laugh and perpetually sing-song ready. A devoted Catholic, Ann’s faith was a pillar of her life. She was also happy watching pretty birds or playing bridge and was known as an astute player.
Ann is predeceased by her parents and by sorely-missed Rusty (2004), along with sisters Catherine (Kay) Robins and Joan MacIsaac. Much to be missed by Dan (Bonnie Woodworth), Greg (Kilby McRae), Anne Marie (Robert Ferguson) and Michael (Ghislaine Leger); grandchildren Claire and Zoe Leger, Thomas and Polly Leger and Heather and Maureen Ferguson; and great-grandchildren, Owen Odneal, Wes and Nash Arsenault and Dylan Zubizarreta, along with many nieces and nephews. Ann was deeply attached to Rusty’s big Moncton family, whose members also mourn her loss.
Dartmouth Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Dartmouth, April 26 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, 10 Mt Hope Ave, Dartmouth, NS B2Y 4K1.
The family offers its sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Oakwood for their tender care and sensitivity to Ann’s well being during her time there, as well as those at Parkland at The Lakes.
