Obituary
Edward Thomas Stennett was the first born to Lavina and Thomas Stennett on April 27th, 1925 on the farm in the Acton School district near the town of Whitkow, SK. His sister, Iva, and brother, Ray, followed soon after. At the ripe old age of 12, Ed became the man of the house when his father left the family to go north-gold mining and never returned. He did odd jobs for farmers over the years and tried to keep the farm running. Eventually they had to give up the farm and move to Meeting Lake area. Ed and a neighbor cut cordwood and fence posts. They also cut ice in the lake, brought it to Rabbit lake and sold it there. He estimated they cut over 80 tons and hauled it 8 miles to town to store in ice houses. It was hard work but they made enough money to live. Ed got a job in a garage in Rabbit lake. While he was there he met Jenny Jones, whom he later married in 1951. They started their life together in Loon Lake where their 3 children – Rob, Len and June were born. Ed owned and operated Ed’s Corner Service from 1958-1985. He then became a lay preacher for 20 years before completely retiring. He also had his little fix it shop in his garage at home – fixing lawn mowers and small engines. Ed and Jenny lived happily content in their little log house until Jenny passed in 2009, after 58 years of marriage. He continued to live in his house until the summer of 2021. He then moved into the Loon Lake Special Care Home where he lived until his passing.
He was predeceased by: his wife, Jenny, in 2009; his son, Robert, in 2019; his parents, Thomas and Lavina Stennett; his sister, Iva (Shaw); and his brother, Ray.
Ed is survived by: his daughter-in-law, Louise Stennett (Bob) and their children, Tara and Andrew (Lyndsie) Stennett; his son, Leonard (Sandy) Stennett, and his and Dianne’s children, Jordan (Anne), Lindsay (Nick) Monson and their family, Emerson and Lucy, and Hilary; his daughter-in-law, Dianne (Novak); his daughter, June (Wayne) Lorenz, and their children, Mike (Raelene) and their family, Hunter, Landon and Carson, Tyler (Jacci) and their family, Parker, Mackenzie and Tucker, and Mindy and her children, Dante and Harlow.
