DURSO, Joseph
1952-2022
Joseph Michael Durso, loving husband to Diane (née Gabriel), kind and gentle father to Rachel (Claude), Julia (Matthew), Andrew and Joanna (Marc-Antoine), passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022, at the Bayview where he resided for the last 19 years. He also leaves behind his three beautiful grandchildren, Gabriel, Emma, and Matteo who loved visiting their grandpa at his “big, big” house. He is predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Anna, his sister Antoinette, and his brother André. Joe fought a long and often difficult battle with Multiple Sclerosis and is now finally free and has joined so many other loved ones, including his son Andrew, who lost his battle to the same disease in 2017. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him very much, including his niece Elsa, who has always been his “fourth daughter”.
Joe was an easygoing and giving man who truly loved his family and never wanted to be a burden to anyone. He was brilliant, patient, had a wicked sense of humour and was always ready and willing to be there for anyone who needed him. His illness eventually prevented him from doing many of the things he loved but he adapted and rolled with the punches until the very end. He will be truly missed not only by his family, but also by his many friends who continued to visit with him until the last few weeks of his life.
His final gift to his girls was “camping out” with them one last time: spending his final days and nights with them together at the Bayview. It was evident that he was equally loved by his incredible team of caregivers. There will never be enough words to thank the staff at the Bayview for their compassion and the way they treated him as if he were their own father. They made sure he was clean, shaved, smelled good, fed, and loved for so many years. His legs were kept warm, and all the best sporting events were displayed on his TV. They were his “other girls”, and we know they will miss their Mr. Joe.
Joe is likely throwing around a softball or watching late night TV while eating ice cream and laughing out loud with Andrew while discussing life’s greatest mysteries. Their witty banter will never be rivalled.
Visitation will be held at Les Résidences Funéraires RF Goyer (3495 boul. Dagenais, Laval, H7P 4V9) on November 25, 2022, from 1pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 9pm. A celebration of Joe’s life will take place at Holy Family Parish (7355 Lajeunesse, Montreal, H2R 2H6) on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bayview Auxiliary can be made in Joe’s name by visiting their website at www.chsld-bayview.com and downloading the “Faire un don” form. Donation forms and envelopes will also be available during the visitation times and at the service. Should you wish to make a donation, please note that only cheques and cash are accepted and not credit cards.
We love you very much Joe / Daddy. Enjoy the ride. See you on the other side.
