Dorothy Ida Harmer, age 98, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Greenwood Court with family by her side on September 4, 2022. Born in Stratford, October 2, 1923, daughter of the late Alex and Sarah (Armstrong) Templeton.
Beloved wife, of 61 years of George Harmer who predeceased her September 27, 2010. Mother of Barbara Harmer (Paul Donoghue), Michael Harmer (Wendy). Also survived by sisters-in-law Pearl Muma, Alfreda Templeton and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brothers Gordon Templeton, Don Templeton, brother-in-law Glen Muma and sister-in-law Agnes Templeton.
Dorothy was a very gifted and spirited pianist who could bring crowds to their feet with rousing renditions of Irish folk tunes to Beethoven classics. Along with having a deep fondness for all animals, flowers and the natural world, Dorothy also had a passion for reading, keeping abreast of current events, working at the daily crossword puzzles and reading up on self-help remedies. She remained sharp-witted and passionate to the end and was never shy about letting you know where she stood on an issue.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to the amazing staff of Greenwood Court, the Colonial, and the Loft, for their exceptional care of Dorothy over the past 11 years. This has been the place Dorothy has called home and indeed it is a very special place filled with love, passion, thoughtfulness and kindness. During the final days of Dorothy’s life journey, the family will always remember, and be comforted by, the many visits, by Dorothy’s extended Greenwood Court family as they shared memories/stories, through laughter and tears, of their time spent with Dorothy.
