Donald Woodley Monday March 21st 2022

Woodley, Donald Philip
December 10, 1945 – March 21, 2022
Don Woodley passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 21, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jan, and their family. We will always treasure our many memories of time spent with GranDon at his cherished Hockley property; wiener roasts, hikes on the Bruce Trail, talent nights and the annual ‘Resort Week’ gathering, were among a few of his favourite family activities. Don was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1945. He was a YMCA camper, counselor and leader and was proud to be named ‘Boy of The Year’ (1960). It meant a lot to pass along his love of ‘Y’ camp to his daughters and grandchildren. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. Don was an accomplished technology leader with over 25 years in sales, marketing, management and IT. He was a mentor, friend and champion to countless people throughout his illustrious career, notably during his decade as president of Compaq Canada, followed by three years of successful leadership at Oracle Canada. With a growing reputation as one of the country’s brightest high-tech executives, Don made the unorthodox career move to retire at 53. Following retirement, he advised and consulted for key industries and government, plus served on several boards including the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation, Richard Ivey School of Business, Telus Corporation and Canada Post. He was recognized in the “Top 30 Canada’s IT Movers and Shakers” in Computing Canada Magazine in 2005 and was past chair of the Board of Governors of ITAC (Information Technology Association of Canada). Don was committed to the arts and was most proud of his volunteer work with the Stratford Festival where he served on the Board of Governors for 10 years concluding as chair in their 50th season.
Don saw the world and travelled extensively with Jan, family and friends. He loved nature and fondly remembered his adventures on the Nahanni and Tatshenshini Rivers, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and mountain biking in Venezuela. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed many rounds with good friends at the Brampton Golf Club, The Devils Pulpit and Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club (Naples, FL).
Most important to Don was the happiness of his family. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Jan, his loving daughters – Allison (Mark), Erin (John) and Sarah (Rob) and his cherished grandchildren: Kieran, Seamus, Eamonn, Neave, Ella, Simone, Turner and Daisy, step grandchildren Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Danielle and Ashley, his brother John (Colleen), brother-in-law Jim Turner (Denise) and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Phil and Doris (Mahan) Woodley and his brother Rob. Thanks to you GranDon, we will always be able to find the highlight in every day.
A Private Family Memorial will take place in lieu of Resort Week 2022.
To honour Don’s memory you may consider a donation to the Stratford Festival (519.271.4040 x 2275),
Doctors Without Borders or YMCA Camp Kitchikewana.
A tree will be planted in memory of Donald in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
