Donald Hepburn Schenk (November 2, 1931 – August 30, 2022)
It is with great sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that the family of Donald Hepburn Schenk share that he passed away on August 30, 2022 with family at his side.
Don, in his 91st year, will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Muriel (nee Spence). Don was the proud father of Valerie Welsh (David), Michael Schenk (Lise), and Lynn Trevisan (Paul). Cherished grandfather of Graham, Taylor, Andrew, Michelle, Kaitlyn, El, Michaela and Ariana and great-grandfather to Miranda. Don was the 6th of 10 children of William Schenk and Evelyn Hepburn. He is survived by siblings Marjorie, Eleanor (Poppy) and Kenneth, and pre-deceased by Marion, Bertha, William, Harold, Carl and James. Don’s many nieces and nephews will miss their porch chats.
A true “Glenite”, Don was a life-long resident of Glen Williams and until the end relayed stories of the crazy adventures of the Glen boys.
Don loved the outdoors – whether prospecting, golfing, fishing or hunting – he was in his element. Don began his career at 15 working with his father at Credit Valley Bottling Works. He then had a long career as a respected and admired realtor in Georgetown. Don also spent many enjoyable years as a shared owner of several successful thoroughbred racehorses. He was a handyman extraordinaire, could repair anything and was even a pretty good baker.
Whether it was attending cadet events and parades, watching baseball or ringette games, regaling them with stories of his exploits or embellishing tales about their parents, Don loved spending time with his grandchildren. He encouraged them at every step, always generous with advice and bragged to his coffee buddies about their accomplishments.
While arthritis slowed his movements in recent years, Don remained the patriarch, quick to share his thoughts on how things should be done. He enjoyed debating the political scene and informing you why your opinion was wrong.
Muriel and the family would like to thank Dr. Li and Dale for their many years of support and the wonderful First Responders, ER and Medical/Surgical ward staff at Georgetown Hospital for their compassionate care.
Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 from 10:00 am, with a service in the chapel at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the Trafalgar Room.
