David Agustin Veliz Perez passed away on October 16th, 2022, at the age of 66. He is survived by his four beautiful children who he share with Veronica. Johanna (Dave), Jessica (Jannia), Jonathan, and Jasmine; his granddaughter Leia; his brothers and sisters Martha, Gustavo, Miguel, Lourdes, Antonio, and Lorena; his mother Maria Luisa; his nieces Lottie, and Iliana; his Tia Fresia; as well as John Daniel, Andrea, and Luis, whom he raised as his own children. His best friends John, Paola, Teena and Kyle. He was predeceased by his father Miguel.
David was a generous soul who was always willing to give whatever he had to those in need. He loved his family more than anything, and often showed his love through cooking and eating together. His Sunday morningbreakfasts, with a house full of music at 7am was our own personal alarm clock. He was famous for his barbeque, his homemade salsa and his famous garlic alino He would take his children with him to Kensington Market and Chinatown for groceries, imparting life lessons about money and food along the way.
David was a hard worker. He worked two jobs for many years, both as a leather craftsman and as a cleaner. He would often take his children with him to work to teach them the value of determination and hard work, a lesson they all took to heart. His generosity was experienced by all those who knew him. He also helped many family members follow in his footsteps and immigrate to Canada, providing them with a place to stay and guidance through the process of landing.
David loved to dance to bolero, pasillo, and cumbia. He would often dance while cleaning his home. He loved riding his bike and spending time with his two dogs, Rocky and Milo. He was a man of tremendous character who will be missed by all who knew him.
Lastly, what David wanted above anything else is to remember the importance of family. He wanted to be around his family always. A visitation to celebrate David’s life will take place at Ridley Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022, between 5pm and 9pm.
