David Churchill Macdonald 19242022

David Churchill Macdonald
1924-2022
It is with great sadness yet thankful hearts for a life well
lived that we announce the passing of our father David Macdonald on
March 10, 2022.
Dad was born in Halifax to the late Roderic Churchill
Macdonald and Barbara Glencross Macdonald (nee
Stackhouse)
At an early age he moved with his family to Moncton. He
graduated from Moncton High School and attended the University of New
Brunswick Faculty of Engineering.
In 1946 while working on an engineering project in Cumberland
County, NS he met the love of his life Marion Withrow. They were
married almost 72 years until her passing in 2018.
Dad later changed professions studying to become a Chartered
Accountant and achieving his CA designation. He began professional
practise in Saint John, NB before moving his young family back to the
Moncton area in 1960. Dad practised there for the rest of his career
and established a home in Riverview.
Aside from profession and family, Dad enjoyed a passion for
sport fishing (trout and salmon) and was a member of several fishing
clubs. Known as a consummate fly fisherman Dad also « tied »
many of his own fishing flies. He was also an avid waterfowl hunter
especially enjoying this with his sons and beloved Labrador
Retrievers.
In addition to his professional career, Dad served with
various School Boards, Business Groups, and Charitable Organizations
as well as the Moncton Area Transit Commission. He was a long-time
member of the former Gyro Club of Moncton.
Dad is survived by his sons Ralph (Jean Anne) of Moncton,
Colin (Glenys) of Cole Harbour, and Ian (Wendy) of Riverview, his
son-in-law Don Botten (Sue) of Moncton, daughter-in-law Opal Macdonald
of Moncton, and sister-in-law Claire McKim of Pugwash. « Pop »
will be sadly missed by his 13 grand children and 14 great grand
children whom he adored, as well as many loving nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife Marion,
daughter Susan, son Stuart, grand daughter Karen, sister Barbara
Likely, brother Dr. Glen Macdonald, and brother-in-law Raymond
McKim.
Mentally active despite some recent infirmities, Dave resided
in his latter years at Serenacare on Lady Russell St in
Moncton.
Our family would like to extend a Special Heartfelt Thank-You
to all the wonderful Serenacare staff for their loving care and
support.
The family would like to invite friends and relatives to join
them in a celebration of Dad’s life at Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd, Riverview
(869-2007) on Saturday April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve
Berube presiding and a reception to follow.
Respecting his wishes, cremation has taken place at the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory
may be made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Diabetes Canada,
or a charity of the donor’s choice. The service will be
live-streamed and recorded.
