Obituary
Darlene passed away on the morning of Saturday August 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at the Palliative Care Unit in Canora Hospital, Canora, SK. Darlene chose to fight her battle against pancreatic cancer privately, with her family by her side. She lived graciously and courageously with it until the very end.
Darlene was born on March 26, 1949, to Dan and Doris (nee Soyko) Karutsky and she grew up on the family farm in the Danbury district. Darlene was the second of five children, with an older sister Judie, younger brother, Gerald, and younger sisters, Connie and Debbie. Darlene attended Ormsby school until grade 8 and graduated from Sturgis Composite High School. After graduation, she attended Yorkton Business College and, in the spring of 1968, she started working at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Canora, where she worked for 36 years.
Darlene married the love of her life, Andy Oystryk on November 6, 1971, and together they had three daughters, Shawna Dee, Naomi Dawn, and Rachel Lynn. Darlene and Andy built a beautiful log home on their farm north of Canora, where they farmed and raised their family. Darlene was a dedicated wife and mom and enjoyed raising their family on the farm. In retirement, Darlene enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, canning, baking, singing and playing music, building bird houses, traveling with Andy, and spending time with their 7 grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Darlene was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Kartutsky; grandson, Chase Kraynick, parents, Dan and Doris Karutsky; and mother-in-law, Olga Oystryk.
She is survived by her husband, Andy Oystryk; daughters, Shawna Stangel, Naomi (Damon) Paley, and Rachel (Clinton) Kraynick; grandchildren: Karley, Bailey, Everett, Cooper, Devon, and Coy; sisters, Judie (Matt) Bernat, Connie (Brian) Jakubowski, and Debbie (Brad) Sweeney; and father-in-law, John Oystryk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from the Sturgis and District Community Hall. A private family interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, the 3B Oncology Unit at the Pasqua Hospital, and the Canora Hospital and homecare.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Hospital Auxiliary – Palliative Care Unit, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Darlene Oystryk.
