Obituary
Peacefully at Ivan Franko in Toronto at the age of 89. Constance, beloved mother to Monica, William and Irene (Bob), cherished grandmother to Christina (Mike), Tanya (Matthew), Nicole and Michael (Sarah). Adored great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her extended family in Ukraine. She is predeceased by her husband, John, and her siblings, Constantin, George and William.
“Connie” came to Canada from Ukraine with her family at the age of 14, and they settled in Rouyn Noranda, Quebec. She attended business college, and then met and married her husband, John. They remained in Rouyn Noranda to start their family, and in 1958 John remained behind to continue working in the mines while Connie came to Toronto with the children. She worked in various roles, including Firchuk’s (a Ukrainian department store). Later in life she became a librarian at the Burnamthorpe -Dixie branch of the Mississauga Library system.
“Connie” loved her church and was a very active member of the UWAC (Sophia Rusova branch), and the UCC (as well as many other church related organizations). She diligently summarized many years of church meeting minutes into a succinct history of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church in both English and Ukrainian and for many years was an Elder Sister.
She was an avid gardener, growing many fruit trees, raspberries and blackberries, as well as gorgeous flowers. She was also an accomplished seamstress and an amazing cook. She will be fondly remembered for her magnetic personality that embraced everyone.
Friends and family may visit on Monday, July 18 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W. (between Kipling and Islington at Fourteenth St). A funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, July 18 at 10:30 am, followed by a reception in the funeral home lounge.
