Cody Ross Butterfield of Stettler, Alberta, born April 15, 1960 to Brian and Verna Butterfield of Ponoka, Alberta passed away suddenly on the afternoon of Wednesday December 7, 2022, from complications of his heart. Cody is predeceased by his beloved mother Verna and his older brother Brian, as well as his nephew Logan.
Cody is survived by his children, son Coy (Mallory) Colt 3, Bowen 1, and Baby Butterfield, daughter Cassidy (Lee) Noble Mila 12, Trey 7, Tyrone 24, Emilee 22, his father Brian Butterfield, brother Kent (Bev), sister Tamie (Hugh) Campbell, sister in law Ione (the late Brian), and his beloved Carolea Renaud. Many nieces, nephews, family and good friends are with heavy hearts as well.
Cody was a proud and loving Father, Grampa, Brother, Uncle and Son, as well as an admired, respected, and hardworking rancher and businessman. He will be remembered fondly by many, some picturing this big cowboy ringside at the Market, or bouncing his “Critters” on his knee, teaching them to drive, ride, and shoot their first bow. On the back of a horse gathering cattle in the hills or shooting gophers out of his Dodge. Standing beside the Ram with Tam or floating on a lake in his boat casting a fly in the delicate, poetic way that he did… then beaming, holding a monster. They’ll remember him teasing and bugging, cooking over a fire, snoozing at his mom and dad’s after the sale, or on the couch with his hounds beside him. He’ll be on the front deck soaking in the simplicity of quiet, at the home he built on that beautiful land. Most profoundly they’ll picture this hunter climbing long and high, lush mountains to scope out a good Ram with Coy. Whenever we picture this Big Cowboy, entering into our day with that swagger and grin, we will remember his gentle and generous heart. We will miss his calming presence. His safety. We’ll be grateful that he did so much of what brought him joy and peace, and that for a man of such few words, he taught us all we needed to know, and how loved we were. He will be very missed. Rest easy Cowboy, high in the mountains beside crystal clear water, lay back under blue skies with the sun on your face and your doggies by your side. We love you so much.
A Day to Remember Cody will be announced once the Butterfield family has taken time to mourn both the loss of Cody and Brian Jr. very close together.
In lieu of flowers the family hopes that you take the time to gather with your loved ones, hold each other close and eat some good Alberta Beef, cooked over a fire.
