With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of Christine Westerby at her Dundas, Ontario home on May 9, 2022. Born September 27,1944 in Hoylake, England, Christine was beloved wife of Carl Brouwer, loyal sister of Geoff (Mary Jo), adored sister-in-law of Mitra, loving mother of sons Marc (Sabine) and Steve, step-daughter Sharon Ivanco and step-son Ger Brouwer, and doting grandmother of Julian and Vanessa. Christine was the dear daughter of the late Kenneth and Margaret (née Rigby). A lifelong teacher, sportswoman and traveler, graduating from Queen’s University in 1966 with a bachelor of arts degree in biology, Christine taught English as a second language at Mohawk college in Hamilton and also in Fukuyama, Japan. She celebrated the diversity of our world, tirelessly working with students from all over the globe, and passionately contributing to animal care and wildlife preservation organizations. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends, colleagues, students, and family members including her cats Pippy and Flint, but most particularly by her husband Carl, whose unfailing devotion and loving care has been constant and inspiring.
For making her final life term comfortable, we would like to express our gratitude first and foremost to Dr. Jim Williams and his staff, and to the palliative care team members from St. Joseph’s Home Care Nursing Team, St. Elizabeth Village, Nurse Next Door, and VON for their conscientious and dedicated care. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life and visitation will take place at Circle of Life, Dundas, on Wednesday, December 7 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., with service beginning at 5 p.m.. Christine’s ashes will reside with her caring, devoted husband Carl, and will ultimately rest with those of Kenneth and Margaret (deceased 2004 and 2010 respectively).
Farewell dearest Mom, dearest Wife, ‘And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest’ (WS)
