Chevon (Chevie) Kenneth Publicover died peacefully at home on December 26, 2022 at the age of 58. He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen, and his father, Kenneth.
Chevie is survived by his wife, Debbie, his two sons, Justin and Chevie Jay (Alyssa), his two step-daughters, Alisha (Chris) and Melissa (Mark) and 8 grandchildren. Chevie is survived by his mother, Betty, and his sisters, Debbie, Shelley, Shawna and Reanna, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Born in Ontario, Chevie grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Chevie, along with his wife, 4 kids and a dog, made the long journey across country in 2000 to raise his family in Alberta. The family settled in Okotoks where Chevie was able to realize his dreams of being close to the mountains and starting his own company. Chevie successfully established his own painting company, Prairie Boy Painting. His immense personality helped him quickly build his reputation throughout the community. He truly cared about the quality of his work and loved the interactions with his customers and suppliers.
Chevie’s larger than life, bubbly personality filled the room as soon as he walked in. Chevie had an incredible sense of humor and could coax a laugh out of anyone. If you spent enough time with Chevie, you eventually would hear one of his best (or maybe his worst) dad jokes. Chevie loved his family gatherings and he cooked such delicious food that everyone wanted to take home a doggie bag. With a heart of gold, Chevie would be there for you in a second to help in any way that he could, no matter who you were. While Chevie could be impatient and stubborn, he always took the time to listen to you and he always made his family feel important, safe and loved. His positive outlook on life uplifted everyone around him.
One of Chevie’s great passions was scouting out every yard sale he and Debbie could find. They would happily spend hours together on the weekends looking for treasures and Chevie would often return home bragging about the deal he got and how he managed to haggle the owner down to unbelievably low prices.
Chevie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone that knew him. Five paragraphs aren’t enough to describe what a great man Chevie was.
Chevie, we will miss you.
In keeping with Chevie’s wishes, no services will be held and a private family celebration of Chevie’s life will take place at a future date.
