Chester Calvin Burchell
It is with broken hearts, that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Chester Calvin Burchell, age 94, at home in Sugar Loaf, on Thursday, September 1, 2022. Born on January 1, 1928 in French Village, Halifax Co, he was the son of the late Calvin and Mildred Burchell. Chester was a hard worker all of his life, whether it was fishing with his family in French Village, working at the Halifax waterfront as a freight handler or fishing from the port of Dingwall until his retirement at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christie, sons David (Jennifer), Gary and daughter Cathy (Stan), brother Victor and sister Alison Bowness. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his step-mother Catherine Burchell, sisters Joyce Covey and Patsy Manuel, brothers Ross, Clarence, Douglas, Jimmy and special sister-in-law Anne Walsh.
We would like to thank all those who helped care for Chester over the years, especially Dr’s Murray, Buffett and Smith and all the staff of Buchanan Memorial Hospital. Special thanks to the EHS staff and First Responders, and also to Debbie and Blair Buchanan for their help most recently. Cremation has taken and a service will be held at a later date.
