Obituary of Cheryl Ann Bezanson
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cheryl Ann Bezanson, on Tuesday October 25, 2022, in Saint John, NB. Born on March 4, 1953, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Rev. Hazen and Ethel (Hadley) Bezanson.
She will be sadly missed by her cousins, her many dear friends, her church family, her many students over her 30-year teaching career, and her loving dogs, Jessie and Jobi. Cheryl was full of life and was truly beautiful inside and out. She found such pleasure in life and the people she invited into her world. She will be missed.
Cheryl spent her childhood in the several communities her father pastored within. She went to Central School where she met her life-long best friend, Margaret (Galibraith) Burns. She attended Lockport Regional High School in Sable River, Nova Scotia, and built many enduring friendships. Over the recent years, Cheryl found such joy reconnecting with Barbara Miller (Cashin) and other close friends. After graduation, Cheryl attended Dalhousie University and graduated with an Arts Degree while majoring in English and Psychology. She then attended Mount St. Vincent University and graduated with an Education Degree. Cheryl made her way to Hampton, New Brunswick, where she taught school for 30 years. She was well loved by her former students, and because of her keen interest in their lives, kept in touch with several throughout the years.
Cheryl’s love of music led to teaching piano lessons and forming the well-loved community choir “The Ossekeag Singers”. This choir sang in local nursing homes, hospitals and at different community functions over the years. In the early 1990’s Cheryl became the organist and choir director at Hampton United Church. Cheryl loved the weekly practices and especially enjoyed the many Cantatas and Christmas Advent services for the Hampton Foodbank.
Cheryl was blessed to be able to travel in her lifetime making several overseas trips. Yet, most of her fondest memories came from the times she was with friends. In her later years, Cheryl welcomed her companion dogs into her life, Jessie and Jobi. Their energy and spirit brightened Cheryl’s life and brought her such comfort. During the final months of Cheryl’s life, her strong spirit shone even as she dealt with a difficult diagnosis. Cheryl maintained a positive attitude and showed such determination that she was an inspiration to those who were blessed to know her. Cheryl will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, (506-832-5541). Once details for Cheryl’s funeral service have been finalized, they will be announced through her online obituary. Donations in memory of Cheryl may be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
