Obituary for
Charlotte Rose Holt (née Geduhn)
Charlotte Rose Holt passed away peacefully on August 8, 2022, at her home in Sangudo at the age of 86 years.
She was born on December 24, 1935, to parents, George and Dorothy Geduhn in the small community of Hemaruka, Alberta. She was raised on a farm with her two sisters and brother and they were a part of the daily workforce. Growing up they worked hard, played hard and got into their fair share of trouble.
Charlotte worked at the little store in Violet Grove and then the restaurant in Lodgepole. It was here that she met her husband, Robert. They married on June 12, 1957, and then moved to the Cosmo area – 12 miles northeast of Sangudo. In 1982, Robert and Charlotte moved into the village of Sangudo and in 1999, built their first new home. This summer they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Charlotte was a remarkably talented person with a great sense of humour and very powerful determination. If there was a job to be done, she did it. If she did not know how, or what to do – she just figured it out.
She enjoyed writing poetry and was very gifted at doing so. This sparked a career in song writing and more than 40 poems/songs were professionally recorded. Her talents were recognized at one of the major Cowboy Poetry events and she won many other awards.
Charlotte had a penchant and skill for gardening, sewing, woodburning beautiful wooden trays, computer design work and so much more. She enjoyed sports – both coaching, and as a spectator. She competed in the Alberta Seniors’ Summer Games and won a silver medal in the 800-meter run. Robert, Charlotte and their dog, Teeko loved travelling in their fifth wheel and she fondly remembered the various places visited with friends and family. Many people will also remember Charlotte for the beautiful Christmas cards that she made for over 25 years, telling the story of the happenings since the last Christmas.
Family history was very important to Charlotte and she created history books for the kids and grandkids. Her office housed a dedicated bookcase for family albums and precious keepsakes, celebrating their rich family history.
Charlotte leaves many to cherish her memory and is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert; son, Stan (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Marie; son, Rob (Kim); and daughters, Kelly Semple and Arlene (Dave) Harris; grandchildren, Brandan (Caitlin), Jessica (Adam Way), James (Marianna Couto), Savannah, Bobby, Christina (Luc) Martin, Danielle Harris (Nick Hazelwood), Brianne (Dennis) Cyr; great-grandchildren, Ava Holt, Grayson Way, Aubrey Way, Vivian Cyr and Fletcher Cyr.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Stewart; parents, George Geduhn and Dorothy Moeller; siblings, baby Fred, Margaret, Irene and Frank.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the emergency responders for their care, compassion and respect shown.
A visitation for friends and family to pay their respects will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Park Memorial, 5101 – 47 Avenue, Mayerthorpe. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 15, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Sangudo United Church, 4907 – 50 Avenue, Sangudo with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.
