KENDELL, Carole Ann, (nee Book).
Passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2022 in her 81st year at Sunset Manor in Collingwood, Ontario after a long battle with dementia. Born in Belleville on October 7th, 1940 to Muriel and Merle Book. Sister to Ron Book, pre-deceased (Donna), Barry Book, pre-deceased (Melissa) and Linda Miller. Married to James (Jim) Kendell for 56 years. Mother to John Kendell (Paula Carrasco) and grandmother to Andrew and Trinity Kendell.
Carole grew up in Belleville, Niagara Falls, Chatham and Toronto. She first met Jim in Chatham when she was 12 years old and went to same school in grades 6 through 10. They started dating before she moved away and kept dating until they were married on October 9, 1965. Carole also cottaged on Lake Muskoka as a teenager where she loved boating and water skiing. She began alpine skiing in the early 1960’s at Blue Mountain in Collingwood where her parents had recently built a ski chalet. Shortly after getting married she and Jim built a cottage at the base of Blue Mountain where they cottaged and eventually moved to in the late 1990’s.
Carole had open heart surgery in 1960 as a 20 year old, one of the earlier procedures in Canada. The surgery was a success allowing her to live an active life skiing, sailing and more. Carole worked in the medical field her entire career, as a nurse, medical secretary and transcriptionist. Carole was an active volunteer raising thousands of dollars for the Heart and Stroke foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home, 404 Hurontario Street, Collingwood.
