It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Mervin Dares, 94 of Lunenburg, announces his passing on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at South Shore Regional Hospital.
Born in Centre, he was the son of the late Bennett and Letoil (Conrad) Dares.
Bruce worked all of his working life with National Sea Products, Lunenburg retiring with over 45 years of service.
Active within his community, he was a lifelong and faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on many committees within the church and supported the work of Zion in any way he could. Bruce was an associated member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg and in later years was a member of the Lunenburg Curling Club.
Bruce enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and his greatest enjoyment was camping with the family, travelling over the year to visit family in Fort McMurray, Alberta and Sicamous, BC and enjoyed a trip with his Eileen to Barbados and following the passing of Eileen, a trip to Europe. Bruce always looked forward to his monthly cards games with his curling buddies and he really enjoyed the recreation activities at Ridgewood, especially the Friday Bingo where he often shouted out “O66”.
His love of life, family, friends and the community at large, were so important to him. Bruce’s quiet courage, strength of spirit, creativity and sense of humour will be carried forward by those who knew and loved him.
Bruce is survived by his daughters, Linda Rowter, Bridgewater, Louise Wentzell (Frank Dolling), Sicamous, BC ; grandchildren, Chris (Tammy) Rowter, Bridgewater, Jacqui Rowter (Mathew Daniels), Lunenburg, Leanna (Brian) Helm, Calgary, great-grandchildren, Brittany Carver, Lucus Daniels, Jordan Rowter and Georgia Helm, sister, Virginia (Robert) Fraser, Truro; sisters-in-law, Helen Dares, Halifax and Lucille Nowe, Conception Bay, NF and several nieces and nephews.
