Bertha Marie Sutherland

We, the family of Bertha Marie Sutherland are saddened to announce her sudden passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the age of 80.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Holmes) Sutherland.
Bertha worked for many years as a lunch lady at Notre Dame School, then Jubilee Elementary, where she retired. She was also a member and volunteer at the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. Bertha also enjoyed bowling, which she did for 50 years.
Bertha is survived by her children Wendy (Darren), Stephen, Lisa (Greg), Roxanne (Kevin), and Marsha (Ray). She is also survived by her sisters Mary (late Stan), Alvina (Johnny), Sandra (Harley), Delores (Earl), and Josephine (late Allan), her only surviving brother Michael (Lynn), 5 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her long-time partner Harold Henry, brothers William Holmes, and Alvin Sutherland, and baby Robert.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Floor 3B at the Regional Hospital.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.
